Zoo De Granby
Zoo De Granby owes it presence to Pierre-Horace Boivin. He was a person who also significantly influenced Granby’s history. In fact, he served as its mayor from 1939 to 1964. He was a great industrial leader and an avid animal lover, who himself had six dogs, horses, and a goat with only three legs.
Pierre had a vision of establishing a real zoo in his city shortly after being elected, and persuaded three of his friends to give him a plot of land along Bourget Street in 1944, and as a result, the Zoo de Granby started to take shape. Space however quickly became an issue, as Mr. Boivin used his numerous trips abroad to solicit animals from his hosts for his zoo.
